Longevity in training
We are proud to announce Karen Mount is the July 2020 Athlete of the Month!
Where were you in your fitness journey before BCF and where are you now?
When I started at BCF I was coming off of back surgery for a herniated disc. I had lost a lot of fitness during my injury, and when I came back I had to start really slow. I modified everything.
What were your goals when you started and have you achieved any of them?
One of my goals was to be able to snatch 100# - and I did it! Once! Which I still count as an absolute win. I also wanted to be able to do ring and bar muscle ups, and thanks to the amazing coaches, I developed those skills as well. But more importantly, after my injury, my overall goals changed. I went from wanting to Rx every workout, to thinking about and really listening to my body, and deciding what would be best for me on any given day. Longevity is now my ultimate goal in CrossFit. I want to be able to still do the workouts in 20 years, so I'll report back and let you know. :-)
What about BCF makes you keep coming back?
Honestly, what keeps me coming back is the community. I love the workouts, and I love how I feel after I workout. It's something that my body absolutely craves. But the community at BCF is so amazing and welcoming. In every workout you can hear people encouraging and supporting each other. The coaches are always helpful and patient, and I have made so many great friends!
When/what was your “ah ha!” moment?
Realizing that doing my best on any given day is enough. I don't have to compare myself to all the other athletes. It's so freeing!
Does anyone at the gym (member or trainer) inspire you and why?
Oh my gosh, this is a hard question. EVERYONE inspires me. Our fantastic coaches - Dawna, Sasha, Mike, Derick, Jesse. The people who have been long time regulars. Such dedication! The newbies - it takes guts to join a community, especially if you're completely new to CF. The athletes who qualify for regionals, or the games. The athletes who will never qualify, but continue to show up and work hard. This whole community inspires me to be a better athlete myself. Thank you to Mike and Christine for creating this amazing space!
