Rob Cloutier

Aging is inevitable, how you manage it is a choice.

Congratulations to Rob Cloutier, the May 2024 BSC Athlete of the Month!

Where were you in your fitness journey before BSC and where are you now?
I was in reasonable shape and had dabbled in functional fitness, been lifting weights for many years, running and biking etc.; the problem was I was fighting a nagging set of back injuries, and I needed something more structured with real coaching.
What were your goals when you started, and have you achieved any of them?
To simply get stronger, be more fit and make myself more ‘injury proof’. By and large, the injury proofing has worked but I have learned you need to use your head. I have gotten injuries doing CrossFit but no major back injuries like I experienced in my early to mid-40’s.
What about BSC makes you keep coming back?
The people and I really like doing hard things. There is always something to get better at with CrossFit.
When/what was your "ah ha!" moment?
The Open workout 16.4 in 2016. One of the hardest workouts I have ever done but I got through it. Since then, there have been lots of moments like that — CrossFit is a good struggle.
Does anyone at the gym (member or trainer) inspire you and why?
Mike and Christine, they have created a very unique community. I especially admire Mike since we are the same age and, while he has had injuries, he works with what he has to be in the best shape he can be. Aging is inevitable, how you manage it is a choice.
