Congratulations to Erik Olson, the March 2024 BSC Athlete of the Month!
Where were you in your fitness journey before BSC and where are you now?
When I joined BSC I was over 300lbs and miserable. I could tell that I needed to make a change but had no idea what that change was. Currently I am at the same weight I was as a senior in high school and in the best shape of my life. I have more energy and motivation to do things that I would never have considered possible 5 years ago.
What were your goals when you started, and have you achieved any of them?
My initial goals were all about weight loss and strength. I have achieved my weight loss goals and my strength goals, but as I have spent time doing CrossFit, I have adjusted my goals to be more focused on long term mobility and sustainability.
What about BSC makes you keep coming back?
BSC is an integral part of my weekly routine. I continue to come back to help maintain the progress I have made and make myself even better. I enjoy the community at BSC and I know that no matter what class time I attend, people will be supportive and encouraging.
When/what was your "ah ha!" moment?
My "ah ha" moment was when I saw the scale say 299. I knew that by joining BSC I had made the best decision to help me reach my weight loss goals. This motivated me to push even harder in WODs and continue to workout at BSC.
Does anyone at the gym (member or trainer) inspire you and why?
Damascus joined around the same time I did, and we have always worked out together. We both have similar goals around weight loss and strength, and it's been awesome to see the progress we both have made. In addition, I would not be here without Coach Derick. Derick has helped me become the person I am today whether it's special programming to focus on my weak points or showing me how to stretch out certain sore spots.
